Siegfried Neuenhausen | Laid at the feet of the people of Hanover

The installation by Siegfried Neuenhausen (born in 1931 in Dormagen) was created to mark the 100th anniversary of Kurt Schwitters’ birth. The bronze relief set into the pavement, inscribed with Schwitters’ words, fulfills its role as a tribute with wit and consistency. At the same time, it becomes clear that in the picturesque, tourist-filled old town with its commercial offerings, it is necessary to refer not only to the city’s famous son—but also to his non-conformist approach to everyday life, language, and design. Thus, the work takes on a socio-political significance and fits into Neuenhausen’s oeuvre and his demands on art. He seems to have placed the quote not merely at the feet of the people of Hanover, but rather in their path—inevitable—as an offering, a reminder, and a playful provocation. Other work in Hanover: “Flying Hats” on the Bertramstraße art wall. » Location: Knochenhauerstraße
